Finland


This is my 5th card in my collection, and this card comes from Finland. 

The painting on my card is made by the painter Helene Schjerfbeck in 1888 and they called Toipilas. 


Helene Schjerfbeck is born the 10th of july 1862 in Stockholm. Her mother whas a gifted painter and stimulating here own dauther to go paint her self to. She traveled and in 1880 she stayed in Paris, tion where she took her first known. Since 1897 to 1889 the lives together with Marianne Stokes and here husband Adrian Stokes in St. Ives in Cornwell. In this time she maid a lot of landscapes, stil lifes en self-portraits in a realistic and naturalistic style. One of the knownest painting is this one on this card. 


After the summer of 1889 she moved back to Finland and opens there her studio together with Maria Wilk. Later in her live she stayed in a little village, 30 kilometers from Helsinki, where she care for her mother. In this period painted she her knownest paitings, a lot of woman-portraits, also self-portraits in a modern and espressionist style, the style looks like a bit of the work of Edvard Munch.

23th of January 1946 she passed away. How that came, I don't know. 

The writer tells me that this is one of the favorite paintings. I think the painting is beautiful, It's not really my
style but I like it.
