Saint (St). Louis is a city of the state Missouri. The population of the city is 353.837 residents, that of the agglomeration 2,8 million (2006).

Saint Louis was founded in 1764 as a trading post by Pierre Laclede Liguest from New Orleans and is named after Saint Louis. Pierre Laclade Liguest chose this location because of the proximity of the great Mississipi and Missouri rivers. Most of the natives was of French descent. In 1770 St. Louis was sold to Spain. In 1780 the Battle of Saint Louis took place here during the American Revolutionary War. In 1803 it baceme part of the United States of America and in 1809 the settlement was officially a city.
