Mourning Cloak



The Mourning Cloak Butterfly (in Dutch: Rouw Mantel). This butterfly is a daybutterfly out of the butterfly family Nymphalidae, the foxes, pearl butterflies and reflection butterflies.

The Mourning Cloak knows a Palearctic and dissemination Nearctische. The butterfly is most seen in Europe, and appears as vagrant in the Netherlands and Belgium. In the Netherlands the Mourning Cloak was a state butterfly till 1964. The butterfly lived in mixed and coniferous forests

Wing length: between 30 till 35 milimeters. 
Seen: March till September.

Nice to know: In males the border of the wings are pure yellow and by the females is the border light yellow.
